The Waterford Fair

We’re now just a couple of days away from October, which means it’s time for one of the best community events in Northern Virginia, The Waterford Fair. In fact, this year marks the 80th anniversary of the event which began in 1944. For those of you who might not be old enough to remember 1944, here’s what was going on that year:

  • In June, Allied forces stormed the beaches of Normandy on D-Day, the largest amphibious invasion in history.

  • In July, the Allies liberated Paris from the Nazis.

  • President Franklin Delanoe Roosevelt won an unprecedented fourth presidential term.

  • Humphrey Bogart & Lauren Bacall starred in their first film together (To Have and Have Not) — introducing the immortal line “You know how to whistle don’t you?”

  • Lieutenant John F. Kennedy received the Navy & Marine Corps Medal for his heroic actions as the commanding officer of PT 109.

  • Legendary bandleader Glenn Miller disappeared over the English channel

  • Fire engulfed the big top at the Ringling Brothers and Barnum Bailey Circus killed 167 people and injuring 682

Flash forward to 2024.

The Waterford Fair is a spectacular event, usually attended by 30,000 or more folks from around the region. They come to enjoy music and entertainment, a wide variety of juried artists, food & libations AND the Historic Homes Tour.
